what really got to me about the barbie movie is how the movie is really about how there is still a little girl inside all of us, and when you walk around the movie theater and see all these grown women dressed in pink and visibly excited, it’s a reminder of that. but moreso, it’s how your mother is a little girl too. and that all comes together in the end when barbie meets her creator. barbie was made so ruth’s daughter could be anything she wanted to be, and she named her after her. in the end when ruth helps barbie become human, she is her mother. and when in the end barbie introduces herself as barbara, she is her daugher again. you can be anything, but being human and mortal and imperfect is the greatest gift of all.

I hate how everything’s called devices and apps now. Those are frail words with no weight and show no respect like machine and program do.
and no whimsy like contraption or gizmo

I think the summer I turned pretty crowd (especially on Twitter) are the perfect example of the idea that fandom these days can’t just not like something, they have to justify why they don’t like it.
My entire feed over there is just full of people at each other’s throats calling each brother abusive and manipulative. You’d think the show was a euphoria level of serious/problematic with the way people talk a about it.
But then I actually watched the show and….
This show is one of those shows where none of the characters are “right”. They’re dealing with grief and being teenagers and all of them react in a way thats accurate to their character. They’re flawed characters who sometimes make bad choices and say things they don’t mean in the moment, and the Twitter people look at all of that and decide that one bad decision or action means that brother is literally the devil and she should be with the other one???
Its so hostile and bizarre

At first Netflix said, come write for us. We’ll save your cancelled shows and write about whatever niche story you want. Our algorithm says people will watch it!
Then a few years later they said, regardless of our promises or contract obligations we are cancelling shows after two seasons without telling anyone. Turns out no matter how loved a show is, we get less subscriptions after the second season.
How many subscriptions did we bring you? Netflix won’t say.
So writers started writing two season shows. Just give us two seasons, Netflix. Like you promised.
Then Netflix said, oops sorry! Turns out your show didn’t premiere at #1 and the views in the first day weren’t what we wanted so we’re cancelling your second season.
What were the numbers? How many people watched our show? Netflix doesn’t say.
Then, they did something extra special. They started taking shows and splitting their first season into two halves. Inside Job was not two seasons. It was one season split in half.
Oops! Sorry! The second half of your first season didn’t do as well as the first half, so now your show is cancelled!
Why? How many people? How much money? These companies are making cash hand over fist and they refuse to tell people the truth: people loved your show. Loved it. But some corpo exec wanted an infinite money making machine. Do you know how long shows are in production for before you watch them? Years. Like, 5+, even 10+ years. And Netflix gives it less than a week before they decide whether you’re getting cancelled.
